FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing elementary sulphur from waste metallurgical gases (WMG) is described, containing sulfur oxide (IV) (SO2) and oxygen, characterised by the fact that it uses natural gas (NG), uses a catalytic reactor (CR) having an input and an output, uses a catalyst placed inside the mentioned CR, before contact with the catalyst the temperature of the mixture of WMG with NG (GM) is increased to 650-900°C, the mentioned GM is passed through a layer of the said catalyst with producing the recovered gas (RG) containing sulfur, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon oxide sulfide (COS), carbon oxide (II) (CO) hydrogen (H2), and unreacted SO2 and the mentioned RG is processed to sulfur using the Claus method.
EFFECT: when bringing the temperature of the gas mixture supplied to the catalyst to 700-850 degrees, the reaction of the recovery of SO2 is provided to elemental sulfur directly in the catalyst at a stationary layer temperature of 900-1050 degrees, resulting in unnecessary stops and periodic heating, cooling, it is possible to vary the composition and the temperature of the recovered gas by changing the content of the natural gas and oxygen in the waste metallurgical gases with natural gas.
