FIELD: crystal growing. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed to prepare mixture for growing yttrium-aluminum garnet crystals finding use as active media in solid-state lasers as well as for fabricating high-temperature ceramics. Hydrothermal treatment of stoichiometric mixture of yttrium and aluminum oxides is conducted in 1-3% aqueous solutions of activators, in particular, alkali metal and ammonium salts of saturated C1-C3-organic acids at 270 to 360 C and pressure 56 to 190 atm. Alloyed yttrium- aluminum garnet is prepared by adding neodymium- and chromium- containing additive to original oxide mixture. EFFECT: increased yield of product. 3 cl, 1 tbl, 3 ex
