FIELD: cleaning exhaust gases from soot particles and gaseous products of incomplete combustion. SUBSTANCE: cleaner has case accommodating exhaust-gas soot cleaning unit and at least one oxidizing-catalyst unit built around cellular carrier. Exhaust-gas cleaning unit has two stages; first stage has at least one catalyst unit built around high-porosity open-cell carrier and second stage functions as separator placed upstream or downstream of cellular-carrier oxidizing-catalyst unit. Engine exhaust gases are first conveyed to catalyst unit wherein oxidation takes place in its cells and, which is most essential, soot particles are coagulated into large aggregates passed from this unit to separator. Entrapped soot is removed from separator either by discharging it to large-space accumulator or by episodic evaporation of accumulated soot with aid of electric heating element. Additional oxidation of incomplete-combustion products occurs when exhaust gases are passed through second catalyst unit built around cellular carrier.
