FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: multilevel converter incorporates, among other things, capacitors C1, C2, ... Cn, one for each of its components. Capacitors are rated at charge voltage proportional to their respective sequences in converter. It also incorporates control facilities BT, DA1, ... Dn, oe2, ... pn designed for evaluating voltage across power supply VECn and for stopping normal operation of converter SE as well as for actuating switches T1, T1, T2, T2, ... Tn, Tn in case this voltage is too low so as to charge all capacitors C1, C2, ... Cn of converter for the time being until supply voltage is recovered whereupon control facilities function to set normal operating conditions of converter.
