FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: there are proposed two-link resistor-capacitor method and gear for its implementation designed for protection of electrical equipment working in extended D C networks against commutation overvoltage. Salient feature of proposed method and gear for its implementation fitted with second damping resistor branch having two additional time elements consists in simultaneous usage of two damping branches brought into circuit of overvoltage quenching and out of it by algorithm ensuring optimal absorption of overvoltage energy which makes it feasible to obtain technical result-deep limitation of overvoltage with technically acceptable capacitance of damping capacitor in D C networks with distributed inductance under overvoltage energy amounting to tens of thousand joules.
