FIELD: electrical engineering, in particular, electric lighting, and namely: for starting and supply of luminescent lamps from AC mains. SUBSTANCE: the device for luminescent lamps with shunted electrodes comprises a starter unit and a current-limiting element. The starter unit is made as a step-up transformer and a capacitor. The capacitor serves as a current-limiting element. The primary winding of the step-up transformer is series-connected to the capacitor, and the secondary winding of the step-up transformer is connected to the shunted jumpers-electrodes of the lamp. EFFECT: combination of functions of the current-limiting element and starting unit element, and fulfillment of them by one and the same element-capacitor, as well as ionization of the gaseous- discharge column in the lamp tube without preheating of electrodes due to overvoltage pulses at the lamp electrodes at the instant of firing. 1 dwg
