FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes blowing oxygen through vanadium cast iron lance in converter until temperature 1450-1500 C is reached at lance position constituting 15-20 its nozzle diameters from calm fusion and adding 150-250 kg/t of solid oxidant for cooler to produce low-silicon metal and vanadium slag in the first stage. In the second stage, low- silicon metal is tapped into ladle, repoured into converter, blown with oxygen to specified carbon-in-metal concentration, after which slag- making materials are added to yield steel and lime-vanadium slag. Resulting low-silicon metal is poured into the same or other converter on preliminarily loaded metal and blown with oxygen to carbon-in-steel level 0.02-0.15%. Optimum amount of metal scrap ranges from 150 to 250 kg per 1 t of steel. EFFECT: increased conversion of vanadium into commercial slag accompanied by utilizing significant amounts of metal scrap thereby reducing consumption of liquid cast iron. 2 cl, 1 tbl
