FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: refining of vanadium cast iron results in formation of carbon intermediate product and slag, which is retained in converter and accumulated from several smelts. During the first slag accumulation cycle, before pouring of cast iron, 70-140 kg of steel scrap per 1 t cast iron is charged into converter. In the course of devanadation, roll scale and/or vanadium-containing pellets are added into smelt in amounts 20- 40 kg/1 t cast iron and, in the course of subsequent smeltings of the cycle, 40-70 kg/t of scale is added. When vanadium accumulation cycle includes at least three smelting operations, 70-140 kg of steel scrap per 1 t of cast iron is loaded into converter before pouring of cast iron in the second smelting of the cycle and, in the course of devanadation, 15-35 kg/t roll scale and/or vanadium-containing pellets are added. During the last smelting of the slag accumulation cycle, 30-50 kg/t of roll scale and/or vanadium-containing pellets are loaded into converter in the first step and, in the second step before pouring of intermediate product, 50- 100 kg of steel scrap per 1 t intermediate product.
