FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves melting steel in converter from intermediate product comprising vanadium produced from vanadium iron; providing oxygen blasting of intermediate product in converter; adding slag forming materials, such as lime, fluorspar, crude dolomite and ferruginous calcium-magnesian flux produced by caking iron-bearing and calcium-magnesian raw material, in an amount of 200-600 kg per each 0.01% of vanadium in intermediate product poured into converter; maintaining MgO:FeO ratio in slag upon termination of blasting process within the range of 0.2-1.25; adding ferruginous calcium-magnesian flux onto poured intermediate product 6 min before initiating oxygen blasting and/or at initial stage of blasting process, and/or onto remaining slag after discharge of metal from converter. EFFECT: increased strength of converter lining and increased vanadium content in steel. 2 cl, 1 tbl
