FIELD: mechanical engineering; piston engine or compressor with mechanism converting reciprocating motion of piston into rotary motion of shaft or back. SUBSTANCE: engine 10 has floating pistons 40 installed for reciprocation and including, each, tappet 46 riding on cam 20 with three operating lobes. Each tappet of cam is supported by guide bearing 50 moving in guide 54 and used to transmit to guide cross components of reactive force created between cam and cam tappet. EFFECT: improved design of engine, simplified design, provision of self-starting when machine operates as internal combustion engine. 16 cl, 9 dwg
