FIELD: quantum electronics, development of solid-state tunable lasers, lasers with doubling of radiation frequency, with mode synchronization, with passive modulation of Q factor, other fields of science and technology where cooling of hygroscopic crystals is required. SUBSTANCE: thin layer of protective material is sputtered in advance on side surface of crystal, crystal is placed in vessel and heat is removed from its side surface by stream of cooling medium pumped through vessel. Presence of protective layer makes it feasible to use fluid in the capacity of cooling agent. EFFECT: enhanced cooling efficiency of process.
