FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, production of cathodic nickel from copper-nickel sulfide raw material. SUBSTANCE: method includes flotation separation of converter matte into nickel and copper concentrate; oxidizing roasting of nickel concentrate; reduction of nickel protoxide; electric extraction of nickel in baths with insoluble anodes from sulfate solution of reduced nickel protoxide which is preliminarily purified from impurities of copper, iron and cobalt. For preparation of sulfate solution, use is made of reduced nickel protoxide dissolved in used electrolyte. Reduced nickel protoxide activity is not less than 60%. Insoluble sediment containing precious metals is directed for further processing.
