FIELD: mechanical engineering; earth moving machinery. SUBSTANCE: members of multiple duty control over translational motion and turning are used in proposed invention. These members execute several functions depending on selected duty. In response to signals from these members, computer changes functions of multiple duty translational motion and turning control members depending on selected operating conditions and coordinates traction of engine and drives of left-hand and right-hand tracks of trencher. With trencher operating, display provides information of condition of machine, failures and other information. Presence of operator in trencher control zone is also monitored. If operator leaves control zone, trencher stops digging. If one or several grave faults are detected, engine will be automatically shut down. EFFECT: simplified control of trencher, reduced time taken for training the operator, provision of operative and diagnostic information concerning safety of operation. 9 cl, 32 dwg
