FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: gel-like asphalt binding substance with improved properties, including reduced temperature susceptibility and lower degree of hardening on ageing, is prepared by thickening liquefied asphalt material. The latter procedure is accomplished by saponification of at least one fatty acid and at least one resin acid contained in essentially water-free liquefied asphalt material employing alkali metal base or adding preliminarily saponified substance to liquefied asphalt. New binding substance can be fabricated and used involving conventional technologies of preparing asphalt mixtures in hot state and preparing pavement and roofing revetment material on existent equipment.
