FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to storage-stable asphalt granules for road surfacing, which comprise a core and a cladding which covers the core such that the granules have a maximum size of 1/16 to 2 inches, wherein the cladding contains a water-resistant polymer or wax, or particles selected from inorganic particles, particles of processed asphalt coating or combinations thereof. The core may contain (i) crushed rubber tyre in amount of 15-30 wt % of the core and road surfacing grade asphalt in amount of 85-70 wt % of the core or (ii) road surfacing grade asphalt in amount of 85-70 wt % of the core, crushed rubber tyre in amount of 15-30 wt % of the core, unreacted or absorbed into the road surfacing grade asphalt, and inorganic particles in amount of 1-45 wt % of the core.
