METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ENSURING COVERAGE WITH REDUNDANCY PROVISION IN CELLULAR RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

Abstract RU 2142181 C1

FIELD: cellular communication systems using sectorial antenna assemblies. SUBSTANCE: power circuit interconnects components of sectorial antenna assembly and set of communication transceivers 79, 80, 81 and has adding matrix 92, 94, 96 to sum up respectively chosen directivity patterns in case of failure of one of communication transceivers as well as switching circuit 102, 104, 106 providing one of operating communication transceivers with common directivity pattern obtained as result of addition. As an alternative, sectorial antenna assembly may have antenna array with set of switching antennas A1-A3 each coupled with one of communication transceivers. These antennas being switched over form set of variable-width directivity patterns in set of cell sectors. In case of failure of one of communication transceivers control circuit provides for regulating width of one of chosen variable-length directivity patterns by changing configuration of respective switching antenna out of set of antennas (S1f, S2f, S3f, S1n, S2n, S3n). As an alternative, each antenna of main array (S1n, S2n, S3n) functions to ensure communication transceiver 5 in one sector, and each antenna of addition array (S1f, S2f, S3f) functions to ensure coverage of two adjacent sectors. In case of failure of one of transceivers that designed to cover sector adjacent to sector of defective transceiver is connected to antenna of additional array (S1f, S2f, S3f), to ensure coverage of both sectors. EFFECT: provision for redundancy coverage in communication system cell. 20 cl, 12 dwg
