FIELD: automatic speed governing of internal-combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: system 430 functions to allow engine 420 to gain desired speed and to maintain it constant irrespective of load fluctuations. To this end, error signal 444 is calculated as difference between desired speed 440 and actual speed 434,436. Error signal 444 is multiplied by speed-error gain factor whereupon amplified error signal 452 is passed through integrating section 456 and proportional section 454 to adding unit 478 wherein it is added to lead signals 474, 467 for engine load adjustment with the result that final load adjustment signal 485 is generated. Lead signals 474, 467 are essentially feedforward signals pre-warning the engine about changes in desired load; command 485 (final load adjustment signal) for throttling gear positioning to control fuel feed to engine 420 is shaped as result of addition of error signal 452 and lead signals 474, 467 thereby controlling engine speed. Speed error signal gain factor 448 is determined depending on engine load 450 and then error signal gain factor 451 is limited with respect to actual engine speed.
