FIELD: chemical and petrochemical industries. SUBSTANCE: method of preparing lower olefins comprises catalytic pyrolysis of carbon- containing stock without addition of steam into reaction zone but in contact with developed iron-based alloy surface comprising alloying addition agents of aluminium (15+-1.0%) and also aluminium, molybdenum and nickel (1.2+-0.5%). Prior to being used, catalyst (chip, wire, gauze or Racing rings) is treated in magnetic field with constant magnetic flux with density of 0.2+-0.02 T. Method which gives high yields of unsaturated C2-C4 hydrocarbons at comparatively low process temperatures makes it possible to reduce specific energy consumption (due to absence of steam) decrease considerably amount of contaminated flows and improve ecological situation in pyrolysis device disposition region.
