FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; making quality vanadium- containing steels and alloys. SUBSTANCE: according to invention, metal burden is poured in furnace and vanadium-containing carbon fluxed briquettes are added. Ratio of carbon to sum of oxides of vanadium, ferrum and manganese oxides contained in briquettes ranges from 0.2 to 0.5 and ratio of sum of calcium and magnesium oxides to silicon oxide ranges from 1.6 to 3.5. Burned is molten and refining, vanadium alloying and deoxidizing processes are performed. Proposed method provides for increase of degree of vanadium assimilation by 8 to 10%, decrease of consumption of deoxidants by 30 to 35% and refractory materials by 20 to 25%, increase of productivity by 5 to 6% and improved quality of steels and alloys. Metal reductant, for example, ferrosilicon may be additionally introduced in briquettes in the amount of 1 to 10 mas.-%. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency and increased productivity. 6 cl, 2 ex, 1 tbl
