FIELD: thermal devices designed for conversion of energy of combustion of hydrocarbons in gaseous phase to infra-red radiation energy. SUBSTANCE: converter has stack with open bulk porosity forming through passages from fibers from heat-proof and heat- resisting materials possessing catalytic properties of intensification of physicochemical processes of oxidation of hydrocarbons and reduction of oxides in gaseous phase. Fibers have profiled cross section; they are laid layer by layer in freely supported fixed beam pattern. Fibers of each layer are located arbitrarily and have angle of turn in space equal to 0.15 - 90 deg. Center-to-center distance between adjacent fibers do not exceed 50 to 150 their maximum transversal sizes. Diameter of transversal section of each through passage is equal to 0.5-20 maximum transversal sizes of fiber. Minimum thickness of stack is equal to 0.5 - 2.0 of length of fibers. Active working surface of stack is equal to 0.89 - 0.99 of total surface of all fibers. EFFECT: extended range of application; enhanced efficiency and reliability; ease in maintenance. 5 cl, 7 dwg
