FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to making of set of springs for mattresses, cushions and like articles, more specifically, to improved method of forming rows of springs enclosed in pockets provided with flat side lap joints. Springs are delivered to material feed station which folds web in two to form tube with first wing overlapping second wing from one side of tube. Then tube is fed to second station in which deflector separates overlapping wings. Further mechanism is arranged which drives springs between separate wings where spiral spring, compressed vertically, is driven into tube in horizontal direction from open side of tube. Material tube with fitted-in compressed springs is fed to second deflector which redistribute material in wings to provide lapping over. At the following station moving overlapped wings are kept on support surface and are connected by spot welding. Then cross welds are made between spiral springs, thus forming separate pocket for each spring. At the last station impact device applies blow to compressed packetized springs to turn them inside pockets and provide their expanding in longitudinal directions. EFFECT: reduced consumption of material and provision of efficiency and reliability in service. 5 cl, 17 dwg
