FIELD: organic chemistry, virology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to use of 2-chloro-3N-dimethylamino-4,4-dimethoxy-5Z-(carboxy-methylene)-2-cyclopentenone in agriculture as inhibitor of tobacco mosaic virus on tobacco leaves. Proposed 2-chloro-3N-dimethylamino-4,4-dimethoxy-5Z-(carboxymethylene)-2-cyclopentenone as inhibitor shows high effectiveness at low concentrations (10-9-10-10 M) and provides decrease of infectiousness of tobacco leaves by tobacco mosaic virus by 45-50%. Inhibitor shows low toxicity (value LD50 = 220 mg/kg), it does not cause irritation and allergy response of skin and therefore it is harmless for human and animals in treatment of agriculture plants.
