FIELD: nuclear engineering; handling radioactive metal wastes of nuclear power stations and radiochemical factories being decommissioned. SUBSTANCE: ingot of radioactive metal wastes produced by using joint refining melting of zirconium and/or stainless steel alloys in cold-crucible induction furnace is shaped as truncated cone with bottom of end part of nuclear reactor fuel assembly fused into its top. Process involves forming source melt in crucible, on its cooling pan, charging in melting zone, and melting refining fluxes and wastes of zirconium and/or stainless steel alloys, followed by shaping ingot of desired length and its removal together with slag from furnace; then ingot is finally shaped by fusing bottom of fuel assembly end part in its top. EFFECT: improved efficiency of radioactive waste disposal due to dispensing with ballast materials; facilitated procedure; simplified design of equipment used. 6 cl, 2 dwg, 3 ex
