FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: method includes charging container made of corrosion-resistant material with spent fuel by means of remote-operated parts, welding top cover to container, heating the container, potting spent fuel in molten low-melting metal, and hardening the melt. Spent fuel is placed in container so that most part of free space is filled with solid low-melting metal parts. Fuel is potted in these parts melted directly inside container. EFFECT: reduced escape of radioactive materials from spent fuel during its packing. 7 cl, 4 dwg
