FIELD: packing spent nuclear fuel for its transportation or long-time storage. SUBSTANCE: method involves loading spent fuel by means of remote-operated members into container made of corrosion- resistant metal, potting it in molten metal, melt hardening, and pressurizing the container. Potting is effected by melting low-melting metal or alloy directly in container and dipping spent nuclear fuel in melt. Pressurizing is made by means of cover. EFFECT: reduced probability of depressurization of fuel element claddings and escape of radioactive materials from spent nuclear fuel in transit and in storage. 4 cl, 4 dwg
