FIELD: machine tool manufacture, possibly holding blanks at working revolution surface of articles worked in metal cutting machine tools. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of basing article at least on one rest with self-aligning supports; driving article to rotation and working its surface by means of tool; forming on article at least one subsidiary annular land coaxial relative to worked surface during two or more stages. At first stage subsidiary land is worked at basing it in rest along corresponding surface. At second stage worked surface is based in rest according to subsidiary land. Rest includes body with main supports in the form of prisms and at least one additional support for weight compensation. Balance beam is mounted in addition on body of rest with possibility of rotation around axle and vertical motion. Main supports in the form of prisms are jointly mounted on pins in arms of balance beam. Additional support is in the form of identical prism and it is mounted on slide with possibility of rotation or stationarily. Slide may perform linear motion in body of rest. EFFECT: reduced out-of-roundness of article, enhanced manufacturing possibilities of rest. 7 cl, 3 dwg
