FIELD: machine-tool industry.
SUBSTANCE: steadyrest comprises housing with two main bearings. One of the bearings is horizontal, and the other bearing is floating and provides a guaranteed pressing of the article to the main bearings. The floating bearing is composed of clamp and mechanism for its tension that is connected with it. The clamp is mounted for permitting radial movement with respect to the axis of rotation of the article and is mounted in the housing of the steadyrest from the side opposite to the main bearings. The loading of pressing is chosen depending on the rigidity of the article to be machined to exclude all deformations. The horizontal bearing comprises self-adjusting bearing whose extent of freedom and angles are chosen so that to minimize the effect of non-roundness on the stability of position of the axis of rotation of the article. The housing of the steadyrest is mounted on the table that is mounted on the bed for permitting longitudinal motion.
