FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing antioxidant used as retardant of process for oxidation carbon constituent of graphite-containing refractories. Said method is carried out by preparing blend followed by high-temperature synthesis and grinding of the antioxidant to desired fraction, ratios of components being as follows, wt %: aluminium oxide, 30-89: silicon oxide, 4-62: and carbon-containing component, 7-25. Melting operation is carried out under conditions of reducing blend components. Aluminium and silicon oxides include kaolin, sillimanite, kyanite, bauxite or mixture thereof with alumina. At low power consumption antioxidant is highly efficient at temperature ranging from 600 to 140 C. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 2 cl, 9 ex
