FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of amidation of material which is essentially one carboxyl-containing polysaccharide carboxy groups of which are converted by MPA into amido groups by reaction with ammonium donor containing group > NH1. Reaction is carried out in two consecutive stages. In first stage, material (which is essentially one carboxyl-containing polysaccharide) is made to react with ammonium donor to obtain corresponding carboxyl ammonium salt of polysaccharide, in second stage the resulting polysaccharide carboxyl ammonium salt is heated to convert carboxylammonium salt groups into corresponding amido groups. Also described is fatty amide modified polysaccharide. EFFECT: simplified process and plurality of valuable products that can be obtained. 13 cl, 19 ex, 4 tbl
