FIELD: metallurgy, blast furnace process. SUBSTANCE: method involves taking of gas samples over section of upper part of blast furnace, analysis of each sample with determination of contents of CO2, CO and H2 and computation of index Qd characterizing direct and indirect reduction by these data. Value of Qd equal to 20% and less indicates intensive development of gas flow in given sector of section of blast furnace and rise of index Qd above 60% is indicative of blocking of given sector of section of blast furnace. EFFECT: more accurate prediction of deviation in distribution of gas flow over section of blast furnace. 6 tbl
