FIELD: construction engineering. SUBSTANCE: device has body, upper inertial mass and lower inertial mass which are interconnected by guide rods with possibility of vertical displacement which is limited by stops. Lifting unit is also provided. Rigidly installed on body bottom is striker. Lower inertial mass has hole which is concentric with respect to striker. Height of striker is larger than height of lower inertial mass. Mass of body together with striker is substantially less than mass of each inertial mass. Stops can be made movable with possibility of their fixing. Application of aforesaid embodiment of device improves ground compaction efficiency due to changing of time interval between impacts of inertial masses depending on changed operating conditions. Also more efficient is made transmission of energy of inertial masses to ground being compacted. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 cl, 2 dwg
