FIELD: methods of abrasive materials production. SUBSTANCE: sol-gel of aluminum oxide which is dried but not calcined may be converted into power by blasting in supply of dried gel into furnace in which temperature is maintained at value exceeding that at which volatile materials capable of volatilize are removed from gel particles. At sufficiently high temperature, calcination is sufficient for formation of fully densified particles of alpha-aluminum oxide of size suitable for direct use in capacity of fine hard abrasive particles or for preparation of abrasive materials. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 23 cl, 2 dwg, 3 tbl, 6 ex
