FIELD: abrasives. SUBSTANCE: alumina sol- gel abrasive grains contain alpha-alumina crystals 2 mcm or less in size and have ceramic oxide coating constituting 1% of the weight of abrasive particles. Ceramic oxide is selected from group including magnesium oxide, titanium oxide, cobalt oxide, corresponding aluminates, mixtures of one or several above-named oxides and aluminates with an alpha-alumina precursor, and their mixtures. BET area of coated surface of grains is by 10 to 40% less than BRT area of grain surface before containing was performed. Advantageously, alumina is screened alumina sol-gel. Coating may contain cobalt aluminate. Abrasive product consists of above-indicated coated particles and glasslike binding material.
