FIELD: mechanical engineering; power plants using internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: multichamber muffler has resonating chamber and common gas duct. Resonating chambers are placed in communication with gas duct through connecting branch pipes. Muffler resonating chambers are formed inside common cylindrical housing limited by end face walls and divided by solid partitions into required number of resonating chambers. Chambers inside common housing are formed in pairs so that resonance frequencies of chambers in each pair form geometric progression whose denominator is D ≈ 1.75. Each pair of chambers is connected in opposition on gas duct with maximum distance of zones of connection. Volumes of resonating chambers form geometric progression with denominator -D- V4:V3 = V3:V2 = V2:V1 ≈ 1,75. EFFECT: provision of compact and efficiency design of muffler, enlarged operating capabilities. 2 cl, 5 dwg
