FIELD: equipment for measuring parameters of liquids, such as level of liquid in process reservoirs and pipelines in metallurgy, chemical, oil-refining industry, water treatment and other branches of industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves exciting ultrasonic wave spreading in wall along helical line with multiple reflections from inner and outer surfaces of pipeline or reservoir at points spaced along helical line; using experimental exponential dependence of ultrasonic shear wave amplitude upon level of liquid; on the basis of this dependence, determining close-to-linear region, which sets level measurement range L with index error of δ; determining concrete point of receiving ultrasonic shear wave on outer surface of reservoir or pipeline relative to measurement point; discriminating amplitude of ultrasonic shear wave at this point in accordance with level of liquid in reservoir or pipeline. EFFECT: improved precision and reliable measurement of liquid level in commercial reservoirs and pipelines with walls of different thickness and diameters. 3 dwg
