FIELD: check of technological reservoirs for presence of liquid which have cylindrical form or form close to cylindrical; metallurgy, chemical and petroleum-refining industries and other industries. SUBSTANCE: normal ultrasonic wave excited with the air of inclined acoustic radiator is directed perpendicularly to surface of liquid under test. Inclined acoustic radiator and receiver are mounted on opposite sides of rod introduced into reservoir at angle (α) and 180-α)) above of probable level of filling reservoir with liquid. Rod is lowered to bottom in parallel with reservoir generatrix. Ultrasonic wave reflected from lower surface of rod is received by acoustic receiver. Amplitude of reflected normal ultrasonic wave is then measured and is converted into DG voltage which is converted into decimal code of indicator with the aid of angle-to-digital converter. Readings of indicator are indicative of level of liquid medium. EFFECT: extended range of measurement of continuous level of liquid in reservoir; enhanced accuracy of level monitoring. 2 dwg
