FIELD: recovery of combustible solid domestic wastes, primarily those having high moisture content. SUBSTANCE: method involves pyrolysis and gasification of organic component of wastes to produce hydrocarbon products of pyrolysis and fuel gas which are used for energy generation. Method is useful for environmentally oriented and effective recovery of slightly combustible wastes. Solid domestic wastes are charged into gasifying reactor of shaft furnace type, probably, together with solid non-combustible material, in counter-flow manner to oxygen- containing gasifying agent and combustible components of wastes are gasified within reactor. Stack gases are introduced in gasifying agent. Maximum temperature within reactor is controlled between 800 and 1300 C by controlling at least one of following variables: mass proportion of oxygen in gasifying agent a , mass proportion of non-combustible material in wastes recovered b , and mass proportion of combustible material in wastes c , A = ab/c ratio being maintained between 0.022 and 0.1.
