FIELD: computer engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves representation of source image as matrix of pixels, splitting source image into n frequency channels, each of which has matrix of same size as source image, detection of image boundaries, and production of output image from said n frequency channels, taking into account detected boundaries. Goal of invention is achieved by splitting image into frequency channels using one low-frequency channel and n-1 high frequency channels. Borders in high-frequency channels for pixel is detected by means of calculation of correlation between it and adjacent pixels and comparison of this value to correlation values in other frequency channels and threshold value for this channel. Results of comparison provide weight coefficient for this pixel. Output image is produced by addition of pixels in low-frequency channel to pixel elements of respective position in n-1 high- frequency channels multiplied by respective weights. EFFECT: increased definition and contrast of processed images with simultaneous noise suppression. 23 cl, 18 dwg
