FIELD: polishing of precious stones, particularly, diamonds. SUBSTANCE: precious stone is positioned in clamp holder. The first step includes setting of polishing depth to obtain facet. To this end, basic plane corresponding to polishing surface is selected. Precious stone is set with the aid of adjusting device to such position relative to basic plane which it must take relative to polishing surface after facet polishing operation is completed. Polishing operation is performed till clamp reaches position relative to polishing surface preset by adjusting device. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy. 29 cl, 5 dwg
