FIELD: radioelements technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing uranium metal scrap and particularly to converting weapon uranium into fuel for power reactors. For that, metal uranium is oxidized at elevated temperature and partial pressure of argon 30 to 120 mm Hg in circulating mixture. The latter is fed at velocity 4 to 10 m/s relative to reaction surface. Total pressure in reactor is 300-700 mm Hg. Compact uranium is preliminarily broken into cuttings or pieces 5-10 mm in size. EFFECT: achieved practically stoichiometric oxidation of uranium and improved environmental condition. 2 cl, 1 dwg
