FIELD: determination of modulus of elongation, porosity and other properties of abrasive tools, ceramic, carbon and other articles. SUBSTANCE: device includes unit detecting and converting elastic vibrations of article excited in it by mechanical impact to electric signal, amplifier and electron unit analyzing detected vibrations, isolating and recording frequencies of inherent vibrations and computing velocity of propagation of longitudinal elastic vibrations that is used to evaluate hardness of article. Device comes in the form of portable desk which houses unit detecting and converting vibrations and electron unit in the form of microcontroller which one input is connected to unit detecting and converting vibrations, which other input is linked to film keyboard and which output is connected to liquid-crystal display. Case of device has recess for installation of storage batteries with indicator showing decrease of power supply level, on-line storage, terminal for connection of outside aid for detection and conversion in which capacity microphone or piezopickup is used. Device makes it possible to obtain information on degree of hardness of abrasive tool and on other physical and mechanical properties of articles without usage of graduation tables or any calculations.
