FIELD: metallurgy and mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has pouring system, hollow spherical reflector, cooling water supplying and discharge pipes connected to reflector, and spherical refractory screen closing upper surface of crystallizer. Liquid metal is delivered from pouring system onto reflector to be cooled to temperature equal to or below metal solidifying point. Thus, three-dimensional metal solidification occurs in crystallizer. Spherical screen prevents metal from additional oxidation, when it is spread over reflector surface. Such construction allows ingots free of liquid and having single-zone structure to be produced. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of ingots. 1 dwg
