SUBSTANCE: invention describes method of synthesis of water-insoluble and water-swelling carboxyalkylpolysaccharide that involves stages of preparing homogeneous mixture consisting of water-soluble polysaccharide and water, isolation of indicated polysaccharide from indicated mixture and thermic treatment of indicated isolated carboxy- -alkylpolysaccharide at 200-250 C for 50-90 s and polysaccharide obtained by indicated method also. Water-swelling and water-insoluble polysaccharide has initial value of absorption capacity under loading at least 17 g/g and retains at least about 50% of initial value of absorption capacity under loading after ageing for 60 days at 24 C and at relative humidity at least 30%.
