FIELD: chemical technology, catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention describes method of producing catalyst designated for polymerization of olefins using metallic magnesium, aromatic halide RX where R is aromatic group containing from 6 to 20 carbon atoms; X is halogen atom, silane compounds containing alkoxy- or arylhydroxy-group and titanium tetrachloride. Method is carried out at the following stages: stage of contact of metallic magnesium with aromatic halide and separation of obtained dissolved product (I) from solid precipitate, stage of addition of silane compound to reaction product (I) at temperature from -20 to +20 C and purification of formed precipitate to yield product (II) and the last stage of contact of product (II) with titanium tetrachloride and purification of reaction product.
