FIELD: metallurgy, more particularly treatment of steel to prepare electroinsulating coatings on surface thereof. SUBSTANCE: composition comprises, wt %: orthophosphoric acid, 50-60; magnesium oxide, 3.5-5.0; aluminium hydroxide, 1.4-3.5; boric acid, 0.4-0.45 and ammonium molybdate, 0.1-0.5 or hexamethylene tetramine, 0.03-0.2; and water, the balance. Use of the claimed composition makes it possible to prepare electroinsulating coating with improved physico-mechanical properties which reduce level of magnetic losses in steel, thus maintaining high parameters of magnetic circuits of electric machines, transformers and instruments.
