FIELD: organic chemistry, more particularly preparation of menthyl isovalerate. SUBSTANCE: method comprises reacting menthol with isovaleric acid in the presence of catalyst. Catalyst is p-toluenesulfonic acid at molar ratio of components being 1:1.08-1.1:0.015-0.03, respectively; and process is carried out at 105-125 C and water is simultaneously distilled off in the form of azeotropic mixture with isovaleric acid. EFFECT: simplified process and increased guality of the desired product. 1 tbl
