FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: esterification of isovaleric acid with menthol is performed in the presence of sulfuric acid during heating followed by washing and vacuum distillating, where the washing is carried out in succession with purified water, 3% sodium hydroxide solution and 25% sodium chloride solution, the mentyl isovalerate-raw in the presence of soda calcined to produce three fractions. Menthol is added to the second fraction and the resulting solution is heated to a temperature of 30-50°C, maintained for 1-1.5 hours with stirring and then cooled.
EFFECT: method allows to produce cleaner product with fewer by-products.
