FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: method comprises contacting (a) liquid magnesium compound with (b) liquid titanium compound in the presence of organosilicon compound having inactive hydrogen in amount from 0.25 to 0.35 mole per 1 mole of magnesium compound (a), raising the resulting contact purging (i) temperature to 105-115 C and maintaining contact product at above-mentioned temperature. Contact product is then brought into contact with not more than 0.5 mole of organosilicon compound having inactive hydrogen (c). Also described is ethylene polymerization catalyst prepared from solid catalyst component and organometallic compound, and polymerization method using said catalyst. In using solid titanium catalyst component, ethylene is polymerized with high activities and ethylene polymer having superb particle properties is obtained.
