POLYHEDRAL CUTTING TIP Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

Abstract RU 2154553 C2

FIELD: metal working equipment, namely apparatuses for milling, drilling, boring, turning and so on operations, particularly changeable cutting tips with large number of cutting edges that may be successively fed to working position. SUBSTANCE: each cutting edge of tip has larger portion adjoining to one angle of tip and next smaller portion adjoining to adjacent angle. In order to protect non-working portion of edge and adjacent edge from damage by descending chip, on front surface of tip there are ribs for deflecting chip. Said ribs are designed for acting together with cutting edges. Each rib extends from zone adjacent to place of joining larger and smaller portions of cutting edge and it has practically the same length as said zone and it is separated from cutting edge by portion of front surface. EFFECT: improved design. 7 cl, 8 dwg
