FIELD: material processing.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to material processing by cutting; it can be used in milling of rectangular ledges. A unilateral three-way indexable cutting insert for milling operations for processing of rectangular ledges contains the main form with a positive front angle, an inclined surface, a peripheral surface containing side stop surfaces, the main bearing surface, and a hole for a screw connecting inclined and main bearing surfaces. The insert has three main sub-edges, which lie along an imaginary equilateral triangle. Material volume VF of the cutting insert and void volume VS of the hole for the screw of the insert satisfy the condition VS/VF≥0.30, and a circumscribed diameter of the edge is DE<6.5 mm.
EFFECT: reliable retention of a cutting insert in a tool holder is provided in processing of ledges using miller cutters of a small diameter.
